Tolga Islam is a research assistant in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul. He has studied the gentrification process in the Galata neighbourhood of Istanbul in his masters thesis and state-led gentrification processes in Istanbul in his PhD thesis. He has co-edited the book “Istanbul’da Soylulaştırma: Eski Kentin Yeni Sakinleri” [Gentrification in Istanbul: the New Owners of the Old City]. He has also written a number of articles and papers and attended several conferences on issues related with gentrification processes in Istanbul.
